Relationship Manager III - Middle Market Lending

The Relationship Manager III – Middle Market Lending is responsible for originating, structuring, and managing complex credit relationships with middle market clients, generally privately held businesses with revenues from $100MM to $1B. This role focuses on business development, relationship management, credit quality, and risk mitigation while delivering a full banking relationship through the cross‑sale of depository, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and other commercial products.

 

The position requires strong credit acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to serve as a trusted financial advisor to sophisticated middle market clients.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Originate new middle market lending relationships through proactive business development, referral generation, and community involvement.
  • Build, manage, and expand long‑term client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor to business owners, C‑suite executives, and Centers of Influence.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to cross‑sell deposit, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and other bank products and services.

 

Credit Analysis & Loan Structuring 

  • Structure and evaluate complex commercial credit opportunities.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed loan presentations, including comprehensive financial analysis, cash‑flow assessment, and borrower risk evaluation.
  • Assess lending risks, identify appropriate mitigating factors, and recommend credit structures that align with bank policy and sound credit practices.

 

Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight

  • Manage all aspects of an assigned loan portfolio with a focus on credit quality, covenant compliance, policy adherence, and early identification of risk.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, address emerging issues, and partner with Credit and Risk teams to resolve problem credits when necessary.
  • Ensure all loan transactions are closed in strict compliance with approved terms, conditions, and regulatory requirements.

 

Collaboration & Leadership 

  • Work closely with internal partners including Credit, Treasury Management, Operations, and Risk to deliver a seamless client experience.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for junior relationship managers and credit staff, sharing expertise and supporting team development.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competitive dynamics, and industry risks affecting middle market borrowers.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial lending experience, including significant middle‑market relationship and credit exposure.

 

SKILLS AND TRAINING

  • Demonstrated expertise in credit analysis, underwriting, loan structuring, and portfolio management.
  • Comprehensive financial analysis experience.
  • Proven new business track record
  • Proven track record of originating and growing profitable commercial lending relationships.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, decision‑making, and risk assessment skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present effectively to clients and internal credit committees.
  • Proficient with software programs (Microsoft Word and Excel).

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Prolonged sitting
  • Lifting from 5 to 10 lbs (printer paper, storage boxes)
  • Occasional bending or overhead lifting (storing files or boxes)

 

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Noise levels are usually moderate. May also involve travel to customers and property locations.

Pay Details:

$146,000 - $210,000 annually

 

Please note, the base pay actually offered may vary based upon the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, education, geographic location, internal equity, and other applicable business and organizational needs. 

 

This role is incentive eligible based upon company, business, and/or individual goal achievement and performance.
