Lead Data Architect
POSITION SUMMARY
Provident is seeking a hands‑on Lead Data Architect to design, build, and evolve enterprise data architectures supporting the bank’s core banking (IBS) transformation, cloud data warehouse, and analytics ecosystem. This is a senior individual contributor role, focused on day‑to‑day architectural design, data modeling, and close collaboration with delivery teams.
Reporting to the Data Architecture Practice Manager, this role is deeply embedded in execution—working alongside data engineers, platform teams, governance partners, and business stakeholders to design scalable, compliant, and analytics‑ready data solutions. The successful candidate will bring strong hands‑on experience with Data Vault modeling, Agile delivery, and modern cloud data warehousing, actively contributing to architecture design, reviews, and implementation decisions rather than operating at a purely conceptual level. The ideal candidate will require strong independent and critical thinking skills to define, evaluate, and drive data architecture decisions aligned with long‑term enterprise outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hands‑On Data Modeling & Design
- Design and maintain logical and physical data models, including hubs, links, satellites, and analytical consumption layers.
- Expert in applying Data Vault 2.0 modeling patterns to support scalable, auditable, and historically accurate data warehousing.
- Produce detailed design artifacts (models, mappings, lineage inputs) to directly guide engineering implementation.
- Define ingestion, transformation, and consumption patterns aligned to performance, scalability, and regulatory requirements.
- Work side‑by‑side with data engineers to ensure architectural designs are correctly implemented.
- Lead architecture reviews with a focus on practical, implementable designs.
- Lead modeling standards discussions, naming conventions, and design patterns through hands‑on use.
- Ensure data designs support governance needs including lineage, auditability, and data controls.
- Partner with governance teams to align models with data domain ownership and regulatory reporting requirements.
Agile & Iterative Delivery
- Actively participate in Agile delivery teams, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and design reviews.
- Provide just‑in‑time architecture and modeling guidance to enable continuous delivery.
- Iterate designs based on delivery feedback and evolving requirements.
SKILLS AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Strong hands‑on data architecture and data modeling experience
- Expert experience with Data Vault (DV 2.0) modeling
- Advanced knowledge of Agile methodologies and iterative design
- Experience with cloud data warehousing and analytics platforms
- Familiarity with banking regulatory, risk, compliance, and data governance concepts
- Ability to translate business and regulatory needs into implementable technical designs
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 12+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics (depth of hands‑on experience is more important than exact years)
- 8-10 years of data modeling experience
- 10-12 years of experience in iterative design
- 10-12 years of experience with cloud data warehousing and analytics platforms
- Advanced experience designing and implementing enterprise‑scale data models and architectures
- Experience working with core banking systems or large transactional platforms is a strong plus
- Advanced Experience in operating in parallel delivery environments with evolving architectures
- Advanced Experience in modern platforms such as Snowflake, DBT, and cloud‑native analytics tools (experience with one or more is sufficient – Databricks or Coalesce)
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred
