EVP - Head of Middle Market

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Head of Middle Market Lending is responsible for leading a team to originate, manage and administrate a portfolio of middle-market loans, focusing on business development, client relationship management, and risk management. This role is designated as an Executive Vice President (EVP) and reports directly to the bank’s Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer.
Middle Market lending targets privately held and not-for-profit businesses with revenues ranging to $500MM and include the cross-sale of depository, Treasury Management and foreign exchange products to existing and prospective lending relationships.
Key responsibilities include strategic planning, staff coaching and development, overseeing a loan portfolio's profitability and credit quality, ensuring compliance with various federal and internal policies, and cross-selling other bank services. The role demands strong leadership, analytical, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to achieve sales targets, obtain strategic goals and foster the Bank’s Guiding Principles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Coach, train, and manage a team of relationship managers, including hiring, development and performance management.
Business Development:
- Drive sales and achieve loan, depository and Treasury Management fee growth by developing business plans, prospecting for new clients, and developing and managing a prospect list.
Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with middle market clients, serving as a trusted advisor for their financial needs.
Portfolio Management:
- Oversee the loan portfolio's profitability, quality, and liquidity, ensuring loan servicing, compliance, and managing delinquent credits.
Credit & Risk Analysis:
- Review loan requests and underwriting, analyze financial data, and provide guidance on structuring credit facilities to assess risk and creditworthiness.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute the business unit's strategy, set goals, and contribute to overall strategic planning within commercial banking.
Cross-Selling:
- Work with partners to identify opportunities to cross-sell other bank products and services to existing and prospective clients.
Compliance & Policies:
- Ensure adherence to the bank's lending policies, guidelines, and regulatory compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 15-20 years’ progressive experience in commercial lending and across diverse Middle Market industry verticals and management of Middle Market banking teams, relationship and portfolio oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or Economics. MBA preferred. Formal credit training or higher banking education (i.e. Graduate School of Banking, Stonier, etc.)
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis, credit assessment, loan structuring and portfolio monitoring.
- Business Development: Strong sales and negotiation skills to originate and close deals.
- Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills to convey ideas to executive management, clients and team members.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement effective business strategies.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
- Certification in Credit Risk or Credit Management preferred. Formal credit training and a strong background in financial analysis, structuring, underwriting, and portfolio management required.

Pay Details:
The base salary for this Executive Vice President position starts at $300,000.00/annually. The final compensation offered may vary based upon the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, education, geographic location, internal equity, and other applicable business and organizational needs.
This role is incentive eligible based upon company, business, and/or individual goal achievement and performance.
